DCD - type 2 differential relay is used for the winding of two or three winding transformer and AC generator single phase differential protection circuit is used as the main protection.
Relay can prevent the role of in the non fault transient current. For example: when the transformer no-load closing, or through short circuit after resection of recovery voltage appears large inrush current, the instantaneous value often up to 5 to 10 times the rated current, then differential protection should not malfunction. However, the occurrence of the short circuit, but can quickly action removal fault.
